The happy island of Aruba.
Here begins the role of the ‘One Happy Island’. The tourism generates more than a half of Aruban income. The most people visiting Aruba comes from United States – about sixty percent. It’s also a popular holidays destination for people from Venezuela (their participation in Aruban touristic reaches thirteen percent), Netherlands (up to five and a half percent), Columbia and Canada (four percent each).
What’s also interesting, the growth of average tourist’s stay was noticed and it’s now placed at the level of about a week (typical for American visitors). The guests from Europe usually stay longer but the amount of them is proportionally lower. There’s only one exception – Venezuelans, whose stay in Aruba lasts approximately not longer than a day or two.
Why is Aruba so often visited, attracting every year more about 800,000 tourists? The recipe is simple.
- The climate guaranteeing good weather. Only sporadic rains, sun shining more than ten hours everyday, and the temperature rarely lower than 76°F (about 25°C).
- The exotic landscape and beautiful views. Wide and long beaches (such as Palm Beach or Eagle Beach) covered by white sand.
- Friendly inhabitants
- The infrastructure. Many hotels, casinos, entertainment centers.
But, to be honest, that doesn’t make Aruba sole unique. Surely, it would be possible to find a few places offering the same attractions. So why do people choose Aruba? The most important feature is safety. The government’s stability and the connections with the Netherlands allow Aruba ensure tourists enjoy their stay with the European standards.
Aruba is famous because of its great beaches, but there is also a lot of objects that should be seen – indescribable Arikok National Park with its Quadriki and of Aruba caves.
Ayo Rock Formations, Palm Island, and Sint Nicolaas – picturesque city (the only one in Aruba, where prostitution is legal). Located on the northwest end of Aruba, the California Lighthouse. Bushiribana and Balashi – the former gold smelters, and so on and on.
What’s more?
Hearing Jamaica – you think ‘Bob Marley’.
Barbados? – Rihanna.
But what about Aruba? Arubans aren’t worse, starting with Bobby Farrel – the musician form the Boney M. group.
Also, the winner of 2001 Eurovision Song Contest (despite he was representing Estonia), Dave Benton was born in Aruba.
On the other side, there are a few famous former and current Major League Basketball players from Aruba, such as Radhames Dykhoff, Gene Kingsale, Calvin Maduro or Sidney Ponson. Also, Percy Irausquin – famous fashion designer – was born in Oranjestad.
Who once felt the magic of Aruba, will remember it till the end of his life.

I flew from Boston to Aruba this spring for $550 and was satisfied with the service. John, Apr 19th
In 2006 we spent New Year's eve in Aruba. We travelled with AirTran from Atlanta and it was a bit uncomfortable. This year we managed to get Delta Airways tickets for $550 each. Fairly a good deal. Nat D, Dec 24th
