Aruba beaches

Aruba is a tiny island placed in the southern part of the Caribbean Sea, quite close to Venezuelan coast with an interesting history and the incredible, unique nature. But Aruba is also widely known because of its great beaches.

Clockwise, starting at the north tip: Dos Playa, Baby Beach (at the south-east end), Rodgers Beach, Mangel Halto, Sonesta Island, Surfside Beach, Druif Beach, Manchebo Beach, Eagle Beach, Palm Beach, Hadicurari, Malmok Beach and Arashi Beach. Each one of them is different and has its own specific features.

The east side of the island has less and not so popular beaches. Dos Playa – placed in the middle of the east coast is known for its great waves that make it a paradise for experienced surfers. The beginning surfers and swimmers are kindly suggested, that any of other beaches would better suit them. (But, of course, no one is going to throw them from Dos Playa).
The second, placed at the southern end of the island, is called ‘Baby beach’. The name isn’t mistaken – Baby Beach with its calm water and white powder sand is especially beloved by the families.
Next, Rodgers Beach is rather quite and secluded. Mangel Halto – the last beach belonging to the east side of the island – is a best place for tourists and, also Arubans to have picnics.

The west side of Aruba has great beaches, too, starting with Sonesta Island that is a private beach placed on 40 acres, offering protected swimming areas. Next, Surfside Beach has fantastic conditions for swimming, same as Druif Beach. Manchebo Beach is the largest Aruban beach easy to access by public transport or car. Palm Beach is one of the best known places in Aruba. It offers beautiful long and wide surface and also great swimming conditions. The full touristic infrastructure and the water sports center attract a lot of visitors.
Hadicurari Beach’s great conditions made it a place of the Hi-Winds Pro Am Windsurfing Competition. Malmok and Arashi Beaches are famous thank to plenty of fish that attract a lot of snorkelers.

Eagle beach

There’s still one beach left, the Eagle Beach Aruba. The most famous, the most beautiful and the most spectacular. No doubts, Eagle Beach is worth all of these adjectives. Although all the Aruban beaches are great, ‘Eagle’ beats them all. Miles of beautiful white sand stretching to the horizon create an enormous sand-pit that every children would love. It offers tones of clammy sand with perfect consistency that is ideal for making large sandcastles (Arubans say that there’s no better sand for castles in the whole world). Also, the beautiful calm turquoise water fulfils the feeling of being in heaven. The magically transparent water here fast gets deeper and deeper.

The close neighborhood of Palm Beach allowed Eagle Beach to remain a quiet oasis of peace. The incessant water traffic that is so annoying in ‘Palm’, near Eagle Beach is much lower and do not disturb the visitors looking for the rest in sounds of the nature. For the tourists searching for more emotions, Eagle Beach has jet skis rentals in its offer. And to ensure the peace-lovers, those skis are not very annoying. The noise they are making isn’t really big and, also they’re usually quite far away, located nearly La Cabana – the biggest resort in the neighborhood.

Although the Eagle Beach is placed close to the road, its width allows to forget about the typical traffic and crowd. Also, the Eagle Beach provides really good touristic infrastructure that is still not as mass as on Palm Beach. The hotels of the low-rise area are really comfortable and still care about their guests. Although there are a few public huts on the beach, it is better to choose the cabanas offered by the hotels. The security guards take care that the hotel’s facilities are used only by their guests, so one can always be sure to find a free place. The restaurants are also provided by the hotels. They are far enough not to interrupt the sunbathing tourists and also near enough for the hungry customers not to let them die because of the hunger. The compromise works great.

What is also interesting and so hard to believe, it looks like there’s no crowd on Eagle Beach. Comparing with other American or European coasts where traffic is larger than in New York of the rush hour, Eagle Beach seems to be a total oasis of peace and quiet. Surely, there are a lot of people here, but the beach is so long and so wide that the impression of crowd cannot exist. Every tourist (if he only will) can find a place for himself far away from any other.

The Eagle Beach’s description wouldn’t be fulfilled without mentioning about the pearl of Aruban gastronomy. There is a tiny restaurant, belonging to the MCV Eagle Beach Hotel complex, which name is ‘Tulips’. It offers cheap but extremely delicious dishes that’s a quite interesting occasion as the whole beach is rather expensive. Also, the accommodation in the hotel doesn’t cost a fortune.

There’s no certainty about the ‘Eagle Beach’ name destination. The most probable and the most widely known theory states that the name comes from the refinery placed in Aruba in the 1920s. It’s name was ‘Arend Petroleum Maatschappij’. In Dutch, ‘arend’ means eagle. Seems reasonably, but even oldest Arubans do not know it for sure.
